TRADITIONAL DANCE and MUSIC, WITH FRIENDS

at
Lake Cumberland 4H Center
ONE OF THE NATION'S FINEST FOLK DANCING FACILITIES
On yon forested hills above Lake Cumberland, down past Faubush, way at the End Of The Road
A WEEKEND OF HISTORICAL DANCES AND OPEN STAGE

HISTORICAL DANCES will escort you through three centuries of folk dance traditions including Olde
English, Early American, dances of the Civil War era, and popular dances of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.
OPEN STAGE sessions welcome YOU to play in (or be) the band and invite YOU to lead some dances
such as contras, squares, Appalachian sets, International, colonial longways sets, quadrilles, waltzes,
English, not to mention some novelty dances which are very great fun and miscellaneous surprises As You Like It.
THE MUSIC will be a combination of assigned musicians, open stage for volunteer musicians, and recorded
music for certain Open Stage sessions in the event that volunteers do not bountifully come forth to play music.

DANCE CALLERS: John Penn, Sylvia Coffey, Don Coffey, and any other callers who may chance to attend.
SINGERS WILL SING … MUSICIANS WILL JAM … DANCERS WILL FROLIC AND DANCE

THE SCHEDULE
for this rather laid-back weekend is…

Saturday
Arrive by 11am, check in, lunch at 12:00
Dancing at 1:00 & 3:00    5:30 Supper     Dance Party at 7-10 pm *

Sunday
8:00 Breakfast     Dancing at 9:00 & 11:00    12:00 Lunch
Dancing at 1:00 & 3:00     5:30 Supper     Dance Party at 7-10 pm *

Monday
8:00 Breakfast    Dancing 9:00 to 11:00     Checkout by 12 noon
*Do-it-yourself afterdancing is not out of the question…

LOTS OF CHOICES: - Musical jams on the porch, by the fireplace, in the woods, wherever you please.
-Go bird watching; hike to the lake (1 mile down, 2 back up). Sing, read, nap, do yoga, talk with friends, make
new friends, sit and think. -Learn to call dances, play fiddle, guitar, mandolin, recorder or penny-whistle in
different keys.
-Power rock on the big sociable front porch (seat belts available).
All this and more you may freely do at your whimsy in addition to - and in between - the dancing.
